5 ways to stay true to your values in the face of temptation or challenge

Will you stay true to what you believe in?

The challenges we face in life can often be a test of our values.

There are many ways to stay true to your values, even when the going gets tough.

Here are 5 ways to maintain yours (written for filmmakers | apply universally):

A value is a way of being or believing that we hold most important. Living into our values means that we do more than profess our values, we practice them. We walk our talk-we are clear about what we believe and hold important, and we take care that our intentions, words, thoughts, and behaviors align with those beliefs.

1. Define your values.

Your values can be used as your filter to make those hard project decisions.

What is important to you? What do you stand for?

When you know what your values are, it will be easier to make decisions that align with them, even when faced with challenges.

2. Communicate your values to others.

When you share your values with your team, they can hold you accountable.

They will help you stay on track when faced with any production challenges, or the easy “this is just how it’s done” temptation.

3. Seek out support from those who share your values.

Surround yourself with people who believe in the same things you do. Place your values on a hiring page for crew.

Their support will help you stay strong in the face of adversity.

4. Be prepared for challenges.

Anticipate the challenges you may face in production and have a plan for how you will deal with them.

This way, you won’t be caught off guard when temptation comes knocking on your door.

5. Stand up for what you believe in.

When faced with a situation that goes against your values, don’t be afraid to speak up and stand up for what you believe in.

Your resolve will only grow stronger as a result.
